Montecristi Hats

Montecristi Hats - Panama Hats

If you’re like me, then you’ve got travel on your mind. I honestly have it on my mind 24/7, but especially now thinking of summery and warm destinations where I can switch up my style and wear outfits I wouldn’t normally wear at home. One hat that is synonymous with warm destinations are Panama Hats, which I only recently learned aren’t even necessarily unique to Panama. The hat has an interesting history related to a very famous photo of President Teddy Roosevelt at the Panama Canal wearing a distinctive hat, but in fact the hat was a Montecristi hat hailing from Ecuador. Obviously since the opening of the Panama Canal was such a monumental historical event, the context of the hat got lost in the mix. The Montecristi hat is made of toquilla straw which grows in Ecuador, and is handmade by artisans in Ecuador in the province of Manabi. Name aside, I can’t think of a better hat for a warm destination. You can wear the Montecristi hat with a suit, sundress, bikini, or literally anything else. Somehow, someway, they can look dressy and casual at the same time. Men and women look equally fabulous in them. Depending on your budget, Ecuadorian Hands offers a huge variety of Montecristi hat styles, trims, and weave quality, giving you truly the exact hat you’re dreaming of. They also come in a variety of natural colors and even pastel shades. Whether you go for something classic or something more ornate, I can’t think of a better pieces to finish off an outfit. And by the way, these hats ship free anywhere in the world!

Dorothy Perkins Black Aztec Crossover Dress

Dorothy Perkins Black Aztec Crossover Dress

There are few pieces more versatile than a wrap dress; they can just be worn so many different ways! I’m currently loving this one by Dorothy Perkins, and I’m learning to find there isn’t a thing yet I don’t love from this label. The poly fabric on this dress features an Aztec-inspired zig-zag pattern which is broken up by a skinny brown belt. I’m headed to NYC this weekend for the annual BlogHer conference and this dress would be absolutely perfect to wear paired with a classic blazer or denim jacket, crossbody purse, and sandals, chic enough for those long conference days and even longer nights. Too late to order it now, but it’ll definitely work for countless other occasions working well into fall. How cute would this be with tights and tall brown boots? Am I right?

Let’s talk beach bags, people. You have lots of options when you hit the shore, such as straw, canvas, or mesh, but I think this play on neon PVC is a strong choice next time I’m picking out my beach bag du jour. This colorful Tory Burch tote features a day-glo purple transparent PVC which is casual, girly, and lots of fun. If purple simply isn’t your thing, check out the other electric hues this bag comes in, and be sure to buy it quick as it’s now a Tory Burch steal at 30% off.

Dorothy Perkins Leopard Ankle Strap Sandals

Dorothy Perkins Leopard Ankle Strap Sandals

I only discovered Dorothy Perkins just recently, but I’ve already found some must-haves from the label including these chic sandals. If you couldn’t already tell, I’m a bit of a freak for animal prints, and the leopard strap on these sandals are just the right amount of sass to top off an outfit with. Animal print can be used as a neutral anchor in tying together an outfit (think colorblocking and breaking up the colors with a leopard or cheetah accessory, like a belt), but use with caution and don’t overdo it. These sandals would look fabulous with just about any pedi shade (classic red, neon orange, petal pink) and summer ensemble. Just leave the leopard purse, cami, or bikini at home that day.
