5 Women’s Fashion Trends To Take Note Of This Summer

With the weather finally warming up, the fear that summer may never happen is subsiding and it’s time to start thinking about updating your summer wardrobe.

It is officially time to pack away the woolies for next year, and remember how to dress for the summer time with days in the park, nights out without shivering, and festival season to look forward to.

But what are the biggest trends of SS17? We’ve cast our minds back to the catwalks of London, Paris, New York, and Milan Fashion Weeks to bring you the rundown on what you should be keeping an eye out for on your next shopping trip.

Slogan tees

Let your tee do the talking and get involved with this summer’s slogan tee trend. While slogan tees have never really been hard to come by, with brands like Dior, Moschino, and Gucci embracing slogans and logos on the catwalks this year they’re set to be big.

So where should you turn to embrace this trend? Missy Empire are embracing the trend in a big way, browse their collection of tops here.

Bralettes

As sported by Kendall Jenner regularly, she also strutted out onto the catwalk in one for Alexandra Wang at New York Fashion Week, and she wasn’t the only one. Alexander McQueen, Victoria Beckham, and Céline were among the many to include bralettes in their repertoire for this season.

Bralettes may be seen by some as akin to wearing underwear as outerwear, but with the hotter weather approaching, love them or loathe them, there will be plenty coming to a high street store near you soon.

Eighties

What goes around always comes back around, and 80s fashion is most definitely back for 2017. Metallics are going to be big, and so are shoulders.

Take inspiration from the likes of Kenzo, Isabel Marant, and Balenciaga and bust out those short minis and neon spandex to make a big statement the next time you hit the town!

Stripes

If you embrace one pattern this season, take inspiration from Mulberry, Balmain, and Victoria Beckham and make it stripes.

Statement stripes were everywhere during the catwalk shows, but we’re not talking subtle stripes, but full-on statement stripes. Don’t be scared to bust out the head to toe stripes, or mix and match different stripes within an outfit.

Pink

Don’t be scared to go bright with this trend. Think pink and embrace the boldness this summer. Celine, Balenciaga, and Valentino all showed us how it was done on the runway this year, and Gucci’s entire show was pink themed in Milan!

Wondering whether to sneak pastels into your outfits or go head to toe fuschia? Instyle have put together this great guide to mastering this trend which you can peruse here.

Hopefully this has given you some inspiration as to what you’ll want to be rocking this summer, so what are you waiting for, dust off your debit cards and hit the high street!

Maison Scotch Silk Stripe Shirt

Maison Scotch Silk Stripe Shirt

When it comes to fashion for women, few things provide finer polish than a gorgeous blouse. This silk blouse by Maison Scotch is just that! Topped with ornate beaded epaulettes, this coral and white striped shirt is the piece to dress up plain denim and your favorite flats. This top can likewise pair perfectly with slacks or khakis for a more business casual look. More subdued masculine elements like the granddad collar, breast pocket, and buttons give it a more relaxed vibe, even though the top is made of silk. Coral and white is one of my favorite color combos for the warmer months so this is a top I could live in all summer long. Would look absolutely lovely worn with turquoise accessories or nails!

Stars & Stripes American Flag Strapless Bikini

Stars & Stripes American Flag Strapless Bikini

It may sound silly, but I came across this bikini and immediately bookmarked it for my upcoming Midwest vacation this month. What better way to sport your American pride than dipped in red, white, and blue stars and stripes out on the lake this Memorial Day weekend? I stumbled across this adorable Americana-themed swimsuit on TradeTang, an online marketplace where you can buy goods at wholesale prices. The women’s clothing section is quite robust, and a little difficult to navigate, but this swimsuit immediately caught my attention browsing through the womens beach dresses section. Just be sure to look into the seller you’re purchasing from, their feedback rating, and any shipping fees or handling times. Do your research as you would purchasing from eBay and I think there are some great deals to be found!

As someone who loves and collects classic crew neck and v-neck tees, I love printed or patterned bottoms to pair them with. This adorable, totally twirlable skirt from ModCloth will look so great mixed with heather grey or white t-shirts, statement jewelry, and platform booties. The classic a-line is very flattering and the pale gold or deep nude metallic fabric can play either the supporting or lead role in an outfit. The choice is yours!

Club Monaco Stephanie Striped Skirt

Club Monaco Stephanie Striped Skirt

I don’t care if navy and white nautical stripes are reserved only for summer, I just wear what I want. If you love rocking nautical-inspired stripes all year long like me, you might also like this take on the nautical classic combo in this skirt by Club Monaco. Navy compliments so many other fall hues like burgundy, burnt sienna, and cognac, which make this skirt so perfect for those slightly warmer fall days where you can get away with showing a little leg. I also love the slim fit and slightly frayed hem which make this a perfectly flirty skirt suitable for a night out as well. There’s just so much versatility in this piece – well done Club Monaco.
